What could be a better way to celebrate Earth Day than by planting a tree? Trees provide shade, clean the air, and improve water quality. They also provide homes for animals and habitats for wildlife, in addition to helping reduce soil erosion.
Planting a tree is a great way to improve the environment, and it’s easy to do!
What is Earth Day and why do we celebrate it?
Earth Day is a day to celebrate the environment and the planet we live on. It’s a day to appreciate all of the natural resources that our planet provides, and to think about ways we can help protect them.
How grants help cities celebrate Earth Day for decades to come
Grants are one way that cities can obtain funds to plant trees. I have written NRD (Nebraska Resource Districts) grants the past 2 years for the City of Gretna, and I was awarded both. It’s a tedious process in which you must show the need for more trees, the locations the trees would be planted, pictures of the locations, and valid reasons the locations need trees planted there. It takes several hours to put together–I worked with the city to ensure they also approved of the locations, and I helped organize the planting efforts. This year, my grant proposal allowed us to plant 21 trees in the City of Gretna.
What are some of the benefits of tree planting?
One of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day is by planting a tree! Not only are trees aesthetically pleasing, but they also come with a whole host of benefits. Here are just a few reasons why tree planting is a great idea:
- Trees help improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing clean oxygen into the air.
- Trees can help reduce noise pollution by acting as a sound barrier.
- Trees can provide shade and cooling, which can save energy and money.
- Trees can help reduce soil erosion and improve water quality.
- Trees provide homes for wildlife and habitats for other plants.
