Celebrating Women’s History Month with Amy Nakai of Rooted Tree Specialists
This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the accomplishments of Amy Nakai, owner of Rooted Tree Specialists. Amy is Nebraska’s first female-owned and operated tree company, and she’s made it her mission to serve the community through her work. Keep reading to learn more about how Amy got started in the tree industry and the ways she’s giving back to the community.
What drew Amy to trees
Amy’s journey into the tree industry began as an ultra-marathon runner. She was constantly surrounded by trees that were in a constant state of change, and she found solace in nature. As she spent more time running and exploring trails, she realized that trees had a calming, soul-reviving effect on her. She also loved the community aspect of being out on the trails; there was a sense of camaraderie among runners that Amy cherished. It was this love of nature and community that led Amy to start Rooted Tree Specialists.
Giving Back to the Community
Since starting Rooted Tree Specialists, Amy has made it her mission to give back to the community in any way she can. She serves on Gretna’s Tree Board, where she works to promote the planting of trees in Gretna parks. She also volunteers to write grants to fund tree plantings in both Omaha and Gretna; last year, 66 trees were planted thanks to her efforts. In addition to planting trees, Amy also brings awareness to local food banks by discounting services for collections. And when she’s not busy running her business, you can find her clearing trails at one of the local parks. “I live by the motto ‘rooted in the community, for the community,'” she said. “It’s important to me to be involved and give back however I can.”
Being Nebraska’s First Female Owned & Operated Tree Company
As Nebraska’s first female-owned and operated tree company, Amy is paving the way for other women in the industry. The community has been extremely supportive of Amy and her business; however, she still faces challenges as people are still learning who Rooted Tree Specialists are and what they’re all about. Despite these challenges, being able to inspire others to get involved in their local communities is what fills Amy’s soul.
